9.20.16 tuesday tidbits: hillsborough and whole 30

Happy Tuesday, everyone!! Welcome back to my Tuesday Tidbits!

friend-y-ful weekend!

This past weekend I stayed at a friend’s house to keep her company while her mom was out of town. It was great. Mainly because her two dogs are seriously just the cutest cutest cutest things ever. But also because we got to watch Sleeping Beauty and make nectarine tartlets and drink a whole ton of tea and have a completely wonderful and gigglesome time!

hillsborough hog day

I know--"Hog Day"--that sounds super, super country. My sweet, little hometown had a “Hog Day” this past weekend, so my sister and my friend and I visited, got coffee, and spread out a blanket on the grass to enjoy the music and fun. We didn’t even eat any of the barbecue they were vending, but it sure smelled good!

the whole 30 diet

Yeah, so I’ve heard a lot about this Whole 30 diet. In case you haven't heard of it, it's basically thirty days of eating with a pretty strict diet (basically paleo). So no grains, legumes, dairy, or sugar of any kind. The biggest difference that I noticed between this diet and paleo is that you aren’t allowed to reconstruct your favorite treats using “legal” ingredients. Also, this diet isn’t about losing weight—it’s about being healthy and having a healthy relationship with food! I love that!

I don’t totally believe that this diet is for everyone, but I’m going to try it out for myself! I'm wondering if it’ll help me feel better with my autoimmune disease. And you’re probably thinking, “Umm don’t you already eat like the Whole 30 diet tells you to?” Mostly, yeah. But I do allow grains and legumes and natural sweeteners (and, every once in a while, not-so-natural sweeteners too). So the biggest deal for me is going to be cutting out sugars and really just eating meat and vegetables and some nuts and a bit of fruit. This could be hard, because, as I said in a post earlier this week, I need my paleo chocolate cake!

Anyway! I’ll be reporting on Simple Healthy Living after the 30 days and let you all know what I think! If you've tried this diet, I'd really love to hear about your experience!

Well, I'm going to go tackle some homework. And I should probably start working on that whole college application thing, shouldn't I? Uuugh. I'm in denial about senior year.

I hope everyone is having a pleasant start to your week!

Keeping it simple, healthy, and delicious!
